In this Music the World was begun;
For Ilúvatar made visible the song of the Ainur,
Which they beheld as a light in the darkness.

Many among them became enamored of its beauty,
By its history which they saw beginning,
Unfolding as if in a vision.

Ento Ilúvatar annë olorentan i Ëala

an urië Iluo óressë;

Therefore Ilúvatar gave to their vision Being,
Set it amidst the Void; and the Secret Fire
Was sent to burn at the heart of the World;
And it was named Eä (the World that Is).
