Mandelstrip
Mandelbrot
Using a linear fractional transformation the ordinary Mandelbrot is transformed into an infinitely long strip with the outside turned in (and vice versa). The right edge of the strip corresponds to the perimeter of the main cardioid with the cusp clearly visible near the center. Opposite the cardioid cusp is the period-4 bulb with the other bulbs of the left edge corresponding to the bulbs found alongside the period-2 bulb.
As a consequence of the transformation the point joining the main cardioid and the period-2 bulb is translated to infinity and the old infinity is translated to the center of the strip — with the blueish orbit trap strands all growing towards it.
